SIL and Community Support for NDIS Participants requiring Mental Health Supports in Adelaide and Perth
NDIS Disability Mental Health Support Near You
Supported independent living (SIL) can provide funding for mental health supports, including assistance with daily tasks, building life skills, social and economic participation, and access to therapy or medication management.
SIL includes assistance from disability support workers to help NDIS participants with psychosocial disabilities live more independently in their homes and community. This can include assistance with medication and attending related appointments.
We work both with individuals who have a diagnosed psychosocial disability, and those with other primary disabilities that are dealing with mental health concerns.

Mental Health Supports Frequently Asked Questions FAQs
What is a psychosocial disability under the NDIS?
Industry Peak Body National Disability Services helps us with the definition that psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue. Not everyone who has a mental health condition will have a psychosocial disability, but for people who do, it can be severe, longstanding and impact on their recovery.
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder may be considered psychosocial disabilities.
Whilst people with a disability as a result of their mental health condition may qualify for the NDIS, the rate of people with psychosocial disability applying for the NDIS and being accepted is lower than most or all other disabilities.
How many people with psychosocial disability are funded under the NDIS?
As at June 2025, there were about 65,000 people with psychosocial disability as part of the NDIS. At the same time, there are approximately 710,000 individuals with a NDIS Plan; meaning a little over 9% of NDIS participants have psychosocial disability.
Around 4,400 (or 7%) of the individuals with psychosocial disability are funded and living in supported independent living or SIL housing.
What mental health supports are available under the NDIS?
We recognise that mental health can be a struggle for many people in the community and including participants in the NDIS, regardless of whether they have a diagnosed or diagnosable mental health condition.
Whilst there are specific supports and services available to people with psychosocial disability, we also can assist other clients to access mental health related supports within the community.
This can include support to:
- improve your functional capacity to carry out everyday tasks
- increase your independence
- be more involved in your community
- participate in social, work and study life
- help you connect with other health and community supports.
